Patrolling in a Z06
Sometimes it seems the cops have just a little too much fun with their ability to confiscate cars of convicted drug dealers and other automobiles purchased with ill-gotten gains. But hey, we all have to get our kicks where we can find them, right?
The Wake County, NC, police have lately taken to patrolling the highway for speeders with–get this–a $75,000 Corvette Z06. So if you are speeding anywhere near Raleigh, NC, don’t even think about trying to outrun the law Dukes of Hazzard style in your Corolla.
According to a report in The Charlotte Observer, Wake confiscated the 500-plus horsepower supercar from a drug dealer and is now using it to patrol Interstate 40. Yes, you heard that right, a Z06 is an unmarked car!
Of course, the article also hints that a Z06 is too expensive for the police department to be using. It even goes so far to quote someone it calls a “Corvette Enthusiast,” saying that the tires last only 10,000 miles and cost $1,500 to replace. I haven’t heard that. Does anyone know if that is true? Any Z06 owners out there, please confirm in the forum.
If it’s true, the Wake County police department may be hosting a few more fundraisers than usual this year.
