Back in late 2010 the rumors were flying that when the Viper was to be resurrected, it would be a reskinned Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
But today the new SRT brand has finally unveiled the all-new Viper and, thankfully, it remains true to its roots. SRT stands for Street Race Technology and is a spin-off from the Dodge brand for the company’s high performance products. And obviously, the new Viper is the halo car for SRT.
The coupe is the first to be unveiled, but SRT plans to produce a roadster and a dedicated race car later on as well. The new Viper keeps the familiar V10 engine, this time around producing 640 horsepower and an incredible 600 lb/ft of torque.
The Viper has apparently been on quite a diet. A composite intake and lighter flywheel contribute to a reduction of 25 pounds from the fully dressed engine. The body is also constructed from aluminum and carbon fiber to lighten the car even more.
But that’s enough reading for now. Road and Track already has a video of the car, complete with the sweet, sweet sounds of the V10 rumbling. Check it out.
