And while the man definitely has played a huge role in the company’s success, the founder was actually his father, Vic Sr. What’s cool is how Vic Jr pays homage to his dad in this video that’s for a DVD that should be coming out this summer called “Where They Raced.” Some pretty cool history here.

Holley continues to make life better for owners of muscle cars and street machines. The Ultra Double Pumper carbs are already a hit by adding many of the touches carb tuners have been doing for years. Now the company is introducing a Ultra Double Pumper with manual choke.

The Ultra Double Pumper Carburetors feature all aluminum construction and are equipped with metering blocks and a base plate made from 6061–T6 billet aluminum. These carburetors come with a tumble-polished aluminum body with three anodized color options (red, blue or black) for the base plate and metering blocks. They are also available in the popular Hardcore Gray hard coat anodized finish. The all-aluminum construction makes them approximately five pounds lighter than old-school carbs.

The new Ultra Double Pumper Carburetors have an enhanced fuel curve for optimum performance, with many more features such as aluminum construction; anodized billet aluminum metering blocks and base plate; 4-corner idle for precise idle control; mechanical secondaries for great performance; clear fuel level sight plugs for easy, no mess fuel level adjustments; Ford automatic transmission kickdown for use on popular Ford transmissions; four vacuum ports for all necessary vacuum accessories; and a manual choke for easy, fast cold start–ups.

For more information, you can check out Holley’s website here.

A few years ago Lamborghini introduced a new concept car called the Sesto Elemento. Now they’ve upped the ante with their newest concept, the Egoista. And boy, does it make a statement.

Exactly what that statement is, depends on your sensibilities. And maybe it says something that Egoista is Spanish for selfish or egotistical.

Regardless, this may be a sign of things to come with future Lambos. So far, we don’t know much, but Lamborghini has said it derived its inspiration for the Egoista from the Apache attack helicopter. And that’s the reason for the single-seater configuration. (Although isn’t the entire purpose of any Lamborghini to impress a member of the opposite sex and bring them home with you?) There’s also moving panels–instead of more traditional wing and spoilers–that extend or retract to control downforce and aero drag depending on the situation. The car is said to be powered by a 5.2 liter V10 engine capable of 600-plus horsepower.

For more, check out the gallery of ph0tos below and the video shot at the car’s unveiling.

Besides avoiding a trip to a tire store and paying a fee, you also get the added benefit of getting to make a small explosion. The idea is to spray a fairly small amount (often sold as “starting fluid”) of ether into the space between the tire and rim and light it. The resulting explosion is just enough to expand the tire and seat it over the bead of the rim.

This guy understands the process, but not how little ether is necessary. Luckily for us, somebody had a video camera on him.

Speaking of beautiful, so is the modded out RX-7 Whiddett drives up the mountain–mostly with the throttle pedal pressed firmly to the firewall. The RX-7 is powered by a quad-rotored Wankel engine pushing out approximately 750 horsepower, and it makes beautiful music bounding off the rev limiter.

When you are talking about rarity, it is hard to improve upon 1 of 1.

Unfortunately, that also means that if the car car in discussion is desirable–and the Shelby GT500 CR convertible definitely is that–then there is only one lucky soul on planet Earth that can claim ownership at any given time.

Now Classic Restorations out of Oklahoma will build you your own GT500 CR Convertible with your choice of modern touches, including GPS, rack and pinion steering and leather seats. You can also get it with a supercharged 427 cubic inch V8 capable of 780 horsepower. Of course, maybe the best quality of owning a recreated GT500 CR is you can drive it without worrying about rock chips or road rash in the paint.

To build the car, Classic Recreations starts with a 1967 or ’68 Mustang convertible and builds it to spec. The company apparently does it so well that Shelby will list each car built in its official Worldwide Registry.

If you want one, you’d better start counting your nickels and dimes, though. Classic Recreations calls its cars “Investments.” And that’s probably true considering that the base model starts at $149,000 and if you check all the options you’ll wind up spending $199,000.

For more information, you can check out the Classic Recreations website here.

Robert Killian hails from Canton, Georgia. He’s been building hot rods for most his adult life, and he has always indulged himself in the unorthodox.

But when contemplating Uncle Jed he told his chassis builder, “Let’s have one last adventure into the unknown. I’m reaching a point in my life (58) when I don’t anticipate foolin’ with 200mph cars much longer.” So this was how he approached his latest creation: a 1,900hp big-inch Pro Stock-powered road-legal Rat Rod.

“Mind you,” said Killian, “I’m hesitant about calling Uncle Jed a Rat Rod because some Rat Rodders take offense. They’re adamant that it’s not low-buck enough, but obviously there’s not enough gleaming paint on it to call it a hotrod.” So its genre is uncertain. What is certain, however, is that Uncle Jed was constructed using a 1928 Ford Model A 2-door sedan body mounted on a twin-rail chrome molybdenum drag race chassis with a front-mounted 14-gallon fuel tank between its rails and wheelie bars at the back. Certified by the NHRA to run in Top Sportsman, the car has sufficient wherewithal and stability to run a quarter mile in 6.50 seconds at speeds in excess of 200mph.

The chief reason for selecting a 1928 or ’29 cab is that each side of its narrow cowl steps out an inch or more to meet the door pillars. In so doing the cowl accentuates the impressive proportions of a Kaase 820cu in Mountain Motor. Mickey Thompson 33in tall x 10.5 x 16w rear tires mounted on 16in wide rims and 275 x 15in fronts on 3.5in rims are separated by Uncle Jed’s 130.5in wheelbase. To transmit the power, ATI prepared a special Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. Mark Williams handled the rear end requirements with floater axles and carbon fiber discs and pads.

With Robert in the driver’s seat, Uncle Jed weighs 2820lbs. “Much of its original paint still exists,” explains Killian. “Back then they were brushed by hand apparently, as paint booths didn’t exist in 1928.” Interestingly, the chassis rails remain unpainted. “I like that raw, unfinished look and I’ll maintain it by wiping it down with WD40 twice a year. It fits the theme of the car.”

Work on the center section of the roof was completed by substituting a sheet metal pressing from a Dodge Caravan for the original canvas top. In the original design, fabric with a layer of cotton was stretched over a span of chicken wire supported by wooden struts. As you’d expect the doors, windows and lights are fully functional. Uncle Jed also sports a sun visor from a 1931 Model A. “I raised it by 3/8in at the back to promote airflow,” explained Robert. “At 200mph I thought the increasing wind pressure might activate one thrill too many!”

Opportunities to go racing on the cheap have been around for a while with both the ChumpCar World Series and 24 Hours of LeMons offering racing series designed for used-up street cars that are worth $500 or less (before adding safety equipment). But how about big rig racing? Nah, that hasn’t been done before.

Chump Car is adding to its slate of racing dates with a new series designed to allow everyday Joes a chance to a Mack, or a Peterbilt, or a Freightliner in anger. The idea is much the same as the ChumpCar World Series, except this time you are supposed to find a clapped out big rig for less than five grand, add a few safety features (fuel cell, roll cage, racing seat, nerf bars, etc.) and go racing.

The new series is called the ChumpTruck World Series and is being done in collaboration with the Fastrucks, a company that specializes in building big rigs for hillclimbs and film work. The series is based on the popular FIA European Truck Racing series and will take place on some pretty impressive tracks, including Daytona International Speedway, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Texas Motor Speedway, Portland International Raceway, Road America and others across the United States and Canada.

“Our target race truck will be 1975-1995 trucks that have seen their last over-the-road trip but still want to show that they’re not ready to retire,” says ChumpCar’s John Condren. “Mike (Ryan, CEO of Fastrucks) and I feel that a truck, valued at less than $5,000, and about $5,000 – $10,000 in modifications and safety gear should provide one great ride. ChumpTruck is grassroots road racing – real racing, real tracks… and really big trucks!”

Say hello to the Horsepower Monster’s new project Camaro. First Gen Camaros have been highly prized for decades, and now the early ’70s big grill cars are catching on with the Pro Touring set. We figure we’ll be ahead of the curve with this ’78. Plus, we’re cheap.

The car was an Ebay victory for a mere $2,200, and there’s a reason why it came so cheap. Everything leaked–motor oil, coolant, power steering fluid, ATF, even exhaust gasses. Most of the leaks were easy fixes done on a Saturday afternoon. We’ve got a pretty cool engine for this Camaro in the works that we’ll cover in detail in upcoming videos, but the exhaust leak was just too annoying to ignore until then. So we threw on a set of Stage 8 locking header bolts.

The Stage 8 bolts are a little more money than standard bolts, but in our opinion they are worth it. The system is simple and it works. So we turned the camera on to introduce you to the Camaro and show you just how easy the fix is.

In this project, we used a pair of Cometic Amor Clad exhaust gaskets from their Street Pro line and Stage 8′s locking header bolts. For more information you can check out Cometic’s website at www.Cometic.com and Stage 8′s at www.Stage8.com.

Check out the video, and please make sure to leave a comment letting us know what you’d like to see done as we take this ’78 Camaro from derelict to the real deal.

Audi was kind enough not only kind enough to put a new R8 up on the dyno, but they also thoughtfully removed the rear bodywork and restrictive mufflers before putting it through its paces.

The result is quite impressive–it always is when you combine fire with 500-plus horsepower.
